J.R.R. Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
― J.R.R. TolkienThe Fellowship of the Ring
I chose this quote because it was said by one of my most favourite authors of all time J.R.R Tolkein and it is a good example of a poem because it contains a pattern and it expresses a topic supported by rich vocabulary and metaphors.
A poem is another way to express yourself through rich vocabulary and rhythms. Poems are based off of feelings, our environments, and our personal experiences. It is essential for a poem to have one main idea and a variety of similes or metaphors to support the main idea in a unique format. A poem should have a certain feeling or mood to it and it should in some way affect the reader emotionally. Patterns are also very important in a poem so that there is some sort of structure for the piece of writing. A poem is much deeper than other types of writing because poetry shows a writer's feeling in a special way that other forms of writing can't capture as well as poetry.
